Minkels Nexpand: 42U to 52U cabinet platform
Nexpand is Legrand’s Minkels cabinet platform for data centres, covering 42U to 52U in 600 and 800 mm widths and 1000 and 1200 mm depths. It is sold as three configurations rather than one product: a server cabinet, a colocation variant and a rack-and-stack version delivered pre-built. The configuration you pick follows the operating model, not the equipment.

Which one should you choose?
Server, colocation or rack and stack
The server cabinet is the standard build for a room you operate yourself. The colocation variant adds the compartment separation and per-customer access that a shared hall requires. Rack and stack means the cabinet arrives with equipment already mounted and cabled, which shortens on-site work at the cost of a longer lead time.
Colocation changes the lock, not the frame
If you are letting cabinet space to third parties, the requirement is compartmentalisation and auditable access rather than more U. Separate lockable sections, per-compartment power and an access record are what the customer contract usually specifies. Deciding this after the cabinets arrive is expensive.
Pre-built delivery is a schedule decision
Rack and stack moves integration work from your site to the factory. That helps when site access is limited, when the room is not ready or when the same build is repeated across several locations. It requires the equipment list to be frozen earlier than usual, so it suits rollouts more than one-off projects.
What we need to quote
U height, width and depth, the configuration, and if it is colocation how many compartments per cabinet. For rack and stack we also need the equipment list and the cabling scheme, because that is what is being built rather than just shipped.
Airflow and containment come with the platform
Cabinets in this family are designed to work inside a contained aisle rather than standing alone in a room. If containment is planned, the door type, roof and blanking specification have to match the containment system, and it is far cheaper to order them together than to retrofit.
