nVent Schroff Varistar NET Plus: datacom and networking cabinets
Varistar NET Plus is nVent Schroff’s datacom-focused cabinet, tested to 400 kg static load under IEC 61587-1, with a safety-glass front door and a two-tone RAL 7021 frame with RAL 7035 doors. It is a lighter-duty platform than the Varistar Server line, sized for cabling and networking equipment rather than heavy compute.

Source of the values: nVent Schroff Varistar Datacom/Networking catalogue (NET Plus section). 400 kg is the tested load-carrying capacity of the NET Plus datacom cabinet to IEC 61587-1, distinct from the 1,600 kg figure published for the heavier-duty Varistar Server line. Depth is configured to order and not fixed by U height. An en dash means the manufacturer does not publish that value; we do not fill it in with an estimate. Confirm every figure against the current manufacturer document before it is written into a contract.
The references we quote in this family are Varistar NET Plus 24U, Varistar NET Plus 42U and Varistar NET Plus 47U. Send us the U height, the width and depth your rack row allows, and we will confirm availability and lead time.
Which one should you choose?
400 kg, not 1,600 kg: check which Varistar line you actually need
The 1,600 kg figure quoted elsewhere for Varistar applies to the heavier Server line, not NET Plus. If the cabinet is carrying patch panels, switches and cable management, 400 kg is normally more than enough; if it is carrying servers or storage, ask about the Varistar Server platform instead.
The safety-glass door is a visibility feature, not just an aesthetic one
Being able to see indicator lights and cable routing through a closed front door without opening it matters in a networking room where a technician does frequent, quick status checks. A solid perforated door does not give that at a glance.
Single or side-by-side changes the side panel, not the frame
A single cabinet ships with side panels; a side-by-side installation replaces them with a mounting kit that joins two frames. Decide the row layout before ordering, because converting a single cabinet to side-by-side later is a parts change, not a simple field adjustment.
Depth adjusts in 25 mm steps, which matters for patch panel placement
The 19-inch mounting rails are depth-adjustable in fine 25 mm increments, letting patch panels and switches sit at exactly the depth that keeps the front door closing cleanly over dense cabling. That precision is worth checking against your specific equipment depth before the cabinet is ordered.
The nVent Schroff name is the current branding to look for
Older documentation and installed labels may still show plain Schroff without the nVent prefix, following the parent company’s rebrand. Both names refer to the same manufacturer and the same product line, so a legacy Schroff reference on an existing cabinet does not mean a different or discontinued product.
Where it fits, and where it does not
Fits a networking or patching room where visibility and cable management matter more than raw weight capacity. Does not fit a server or storage deployment near the 400 kg limit, where the heavier-duty Varistar Server line is the right platform.
What we need in order to quote it
- U height needed: 24U, 42U or 47U
- Single or side-by-side row configuration
- Cabinet depth against your equipment’s actual depth
- Whether the load approaches the 400 kg limit
