Vertiv VR Rack: 42U to 48U data centre cabinets

The Vertiv VR Rack is a 19-inch data centre cabinet available in 42U, 45U and 48U, in 600 and 800 mm widths and 1100 and 1200 mm depths. Every variant in the family is deep, which reflects what it is built for: full-depth servers with cable management behind them. Codes such as VR3100 and VR3300 identify the size and door configuration.

Which one should you choose?

Why this family starts deep

There is no shallow option here, and that is a design decision rather than a gap. A 1100 mm minimum depth means the rear of the cabinet has room for power distribution, patching and airflow at the same time. If your equipment is shallow network gear rather than servers, a different family will use the floor better.

800 mm width is the working choice

At 600 mm the cabinet fits more racks into a row; at 800 mm it fits more cable into a rack. In a dense row with dual 0U PDUs and structured cabling per cabinet, the 800 mm frame is usually what keeps the rear serviceable. Decide this against the row layout, not against a single rack in isolation.

Rows, not racks

VR cabinets are normally installed in bayed rows and are designed to join side by side, which changes the seismic and levelling detail as well as the cable path between adjacent racks. Tell us how many cabinets and in what arrangement, because a row of eight is a different bill of materials from eight standalone racks.

Load and access

Confirm the total static load you intend to carry and how the cabinets will be moved into the room. Doorway width, lift capacity and floor tile rating decide whether a cabinet arrives assembled or has to be built in place, and that affects both the delivery schedule and the installation cost.

Accessories are part of the price

Shelves, blanking panels, cable managers, earthing kits and baying hardware are separate line items and they add up on a multi-cabinet order. We list them explicitly in the quote rather than leaving them to be discovered on site, because a missing baying kit stops an installation just as effectively as a missing cabinet.
