Vertiv Geist rack PDUs: Basic, Monitored and Switched
Vertiv’s Geist rack PDU line spans four tiers built on the same rPDU platform. The references on this page are the stocked North America catalogue numbers Vertiv publishes with full electrical data; the tier is carried in the type column since it is not encoded in the reference itself.

Source of the values: Vertiv Geist Rack PDUs brochure, stocked North America model table. K-69: the Excel entry named generic tier prefixes (BR/MN/MD/SW) rather than manufacturer references. The references above are the real stocked North America catalogue numbers published in the Vertiv Geist Rack PDUs brochure; the type column carries the tier since it is not encoded in the reference itself. This is a subset of the full stocked list. An en dash means the manufacturer does not publish that value; we do not fill it in with an estimate. Confirm every figure against the current manufacturer document before it is written into a contract.
The references we quote in this family are VP9562, VP9563, VP7541, VP8830, VP8841, VP8865, VP46301, VP51100, VP8930, VP8941, VP8965, VP8641 and VP5665V. Send us the load, the phase and the outlet count you need, and we will confirm availability and lead time.
Which one should you choose?
Unit level and outlet level are two different Monitored/Switched grades
Unit-level monitored or switched units report and control power for the PDU as a whole. Outlet-level units, such as VP8641, do the same per individual outlet. The step up in granularity costs more and is worth it exactly when you need to know or control a single connection, not the whole rack.
Daisy chaining changes how many network ports you need
Monitored and Switched units support fault-tolerant daisy chaining of up to 50 devices on a single IP address, so a row of intelligent PDUs does not need one switch port per unit. Plan the network for the row, and the switch port budget for a large deployment falls sharply.
208 V and 120/208 V WYE models are not the same input
VP8865 and VP8965 take 120/208V WYE three-phase input for higher combined load, while most of the range is single-phase 120 V or 208 V. Confirm the supply your switchboard actually delivers before choosing a WYE-input model.
High-temperature rated units cost more for a reason
Monitored and Switched units in this range are rated to 60 °C operating temperature against 45 °C for Basic units. If the rack sits in a hot aisle or an edge location without tight climate control, that rating is not a marketing number, it is the difference between reliable and marginal operation.
This is a subset of a much larger stocked list
Vertiv’s brochure lists more references than we carry here, covering additional plug types and outlet configurations. If none of the rows below match your circuit exactly, tell us the load, phase and outlet requirement and we will check the full stocked list with Vertiv.
Where it fits, and where it does not
Fits a rack that needs reliable Vertiv-branded power distribution at any tier from unmetered to outlet-level switched, especially in hot-aisle or edge locations where the 60 °C rating matters. Does not fit a requirement for the newer modular GU2 platform; that family’s page notes it separately.
What we need in order to quote it
- Load in amps, voltage and single/three-phase supply
- Unit-level or outlet-level monitoring/switching
- Operating temperature at the installation location
- Whether daisy-chained network management across a row is planned
