Raritan PX3: metered, switched and per-outlet rack PDUs
Raritan PX3 is Legrand’s intelligent rack PDU family, built on the Xerus platform and sold as a series of models from PX3-1000 through PX3-5500. The series number is the feature level: input metering at the low end, per-outlet metering and switching at the top. Choosing inside PX3 is mostly a decision about how granular your power data needs to be.

Which one should you choose?
The series number is the specification
PX3-1000 measures the input. The 3000 and 4000 series add outlet-level detail and switching. The 5000 and 5500 series are the fully instrumented models. Working out which series you need is easier if you start from the question you want the PDU to answer, rather than from a comparison table.
Per-outlet data is a capacity-planning tool
Once every outlet reports its own current, you can attribute power to a specific machine rather than to a rack. That is what makes chargeback in a shared hall possible, and it is what tells you which server is actually responsible for the feed running out. If nobody will read that data, do not pay for it.
Xerus means it behaves like an IT device
The platform provides a web interface, standard network protocols and integration with monitoring systems, so the PDU joins the estate the way a switch does. It also means it needs the same treatment: firmware policy, credentials and a place in the network design. Plan for that rather than discovering it at commissioning.
Sizing and outlets
Give us the input current and phase, the number and type of outlets, and whether you need 0U or 1U. The outlet mix matters more than people expect: a rack full of C19 loads and a rack full of C13 loads need different strips even at identical total power.
Environmental sensors
The platform accepts temperature, humidity and door sensors, so the PDU becomes the measurement point for the cabinet as well as the power point. If you have no other in-rack instrumentation, adding sensors at the same time as the PDU is much cheaper than a separate monitoring installation later.
