HPE ProLiant DL Gen11 (AMD): EPYC-based rack servers
The AMD side of ProLiant DL Gen11 runs 4th/5th generation EPYC 9004/9005 across DL325 (1U, single-socket), DL345 (1U) and DL385 (2U, dual-socket, up to 160 cores per processor and 6 TB of DDR5). All three inherit the Gen11 platform’s Flex Slot Platinum/Titanium power supplies and Silicon Root of Trust.

Which one should you choose?
DL325’s front GPU support is a 1U differentiator
Few single-socket 1U servers in our range support front-mounted GPUs at all; DL325 Gen11 does, up to two, which matters for an edge-inferencing role where rack space is limited and a 2U GPU chassis will not fit. Confirm the GPU model’s thermal envelope against DL325’s air cooling before ordering.
DL385’s memory ceiling is set per-socket, so single vs dual changes the total
DL385 Gen11 provides 12 DIMM channels per processor for up to 6 TB total across two sockets; half that if only one socket is populated. If the plan is to add a second processor later, order the DIMM count for the final two-socket memory target from day one to avoid a costly re-population.
EPYC’s core count changes the virtualization math, not just raw speed
At up to 160 cores per processor, a single DL385 can host a virtualization density that would need two or three Intel-based servers to match core-for-core, which changes the per-VM licensing and rack-space calculation. Model the actual VM density target, not just the CPU benchmark score, before comparing against the Intel line.
DL345 sits between DL325 and DL385 and was not individually confirmed here
DL345 Gen11 shares the EPYC 9004/9005 generation with its siblings but its specific drive, GPU and network configuration was not in the documents we checked. Ask us to confirm the exact configuration before quoting.
Where it fits, and where it does not
Fits a workload where AMD’s per-socket core density changes the economics of virtualization, database or software-defined storage. Does not fit a site standardised on Intel drivers and support; the DL Gen11 (Intel) page is the match there.
