Lenovo ThinkSystem SR (Intel): 1U, 2U and 4U rack servers
ThinkSystem SR is Lenovo’s Intel rack server line, covering SR250 V3 at the entry, SR630 V3 and SR650 V3 as the mainstream 1U and 2U, and SR850 V3 and SR860 V3 as the four-socket machines. The numbering follows the same logic as its competitors, which makes cross-brand comparison straightforward once the configuration is written out.

Which one should you choose?
SR630 and SR650 are the volume models
These two carry most workloads: the 630 in 1U for density, the 650 in 2U for expansion and drives. If you are standardising a cluster, one of these two is almost always the answer, and the interesting decision is memory and network rather than chassis.
Where Lenovo is worth comparing
Because the platform generation and processor family are shared across vendors in this class, the differences that matter are configuration flexibility, management tooling and the delivered price at your specific build. That is exactly the comparison we are set up to run, since we are not tied to any of the three.
Four sockets: SR850 and SR860
The 850 V3 and 860 V3 are four-socket machines for large in-memory databases and consolidation cases where fewer, larger nodes beat more, smaller ones. They are not a general upgrade path from a two-socket cluster, and the licensing consequences often matter more than the hardware price.
Entry level has a real ceiling
The SR250 V3 is a single-socket 1U for small sites and edge deployments. It is genuinely cheaper, and it genuinely runs out of memory and expansion sooner. Check the ceiling against the three-year plan rather than the first-year workload.
What we need to quote
The workload, node count, storage and network requirement, rack constraints and support level. Tell us if the machines join an existing Lenovo estate, because matching the management platform across generations saves more operational time than a small hardware saving.
Request a Quote
Send the workload, the rack space available and the delivery country. A priced quote comes back within 48 hours against a written configuration, not a model name alone.
