Eaton 9PX and 9SX: 1 to 11 kVA, rack or tower
9PX and 9SX cover 1 to 11 kVA in convertible rack and tower formats. 9PX is the double-conversion online line; 9SX sits below it as a line-interactive option for less demanding loads. For anything in a rack the online design is the one that belongs there, and that distinction is the first thing to settle.

Source of the values: Eaton 9PX UPS 5/6/8/11 kVA technical specification. An en dash means the manufacturer does not publish that value; we do not fill it in with an estimate. Confirm every figure against the current manufacturer document before it is written into a contract.
The references we quote in this family are 9PX1000IRT, 9PX1500IRT, 9PX2200IRT, 9PX3000IRT, 9PX5KIRT, 9PX6KIRT and 9PX11KIRT. Send us the reference if you already have one, or the load in kW and the runtime if you do not, and we will confirm availability and lead time.
Which one should you choose?
9PX or 9SX is a topology decision
9PX runs the load from the inverter permanently, so a mains failure produces no transfer at all and voltage and frequency stay regulated. 9SX corrects voltage without touching the battery but still transfers when the mains fails. For rack equipment, specify 9PX. For a workshop PC or a till, 9SX is honest value.
Convertible format, one purchase
Both mount horizontally on rails or stand as a tower. A branch office with no cabinet today can buy the unit it will still be using after the cabinet arrives, which is cheaper than replacing it when the room changes.
11 kVA is the practical ceiling
Above this the family runs out and the answer is either a larger single-phase unit or a small three-phase frame. If your load is near the top, resolve which side you land on before comparing prices; the two options install very differently.
Load type matters more than the label
This class often ends up protecting a mix: a switch, a small server, sometimes a printer or a workstation that should not be there. Non-IT loads with motors or heaters behave differently and can trip a unit sized on paperwork. Tell us what is actually plugged in, not just the total.
Where it fits, and where it does not
Fits a server room, branch office or edge cabinet under 11 kVA where the load is IT equipment and the supply is single-phase. Does not fit a three-phase installation, and does not fit any rack that will exceed 11 kVA.
What we need in order to quote it
- Load in kVA or kW and the equipment type behind it
- 9PX or 9SX, or ask us to state which the load requires
- Rack or tower, and the U free if rack
- Runtime and whether extended battery modules are in scope
- Input socket type and circuit rating
Request a Quote
Tell us the load in kW, the runtime you want and the delivery country. A priced quote comes back within 48 hours, usually with a second option so the trade-off is visible.
