Galaxy VX: 500 to 1500 kW UPS for large data centres

Galaxy VX covers 500 to 1500 kW and is designed to scale inside a single unit rather than by adding frames. That is the property that separates it from the classes below: capacity grows without a second installation project, a second switchboard section and a second commissioning visit. It is a design-stage product, not something dropped into a finished room.

Which one should you choose?

Scaling inside one unit

Growing capacity within an existing frame means the electrical design, the cable routes and the floor loading are settled once. Compared with paralleling separate units, it removes a class of coordination work later, and that saving usually exceeds the price difference on a site that genuinely grows.

At this size the room is the constraint

Above 500 kW the questions that decide the project are switchgear layout, cable entry, floor loading and battery room ventilation. Bring the building constraints to the first conversation; they narrow the product choice more than the load figure does.

Maintenance bypass is not optional

A unit of this rating has to be removable from circuit without dropping the load. Whether the bypass is internal or a separate panel changes the switchboard design, and adding it after the board is built means an outage.

Efficiency at part load, not at peak

A headline efficiency figure is measured at one load point. A unit sized for growth spends its first years well below that point, so ask for the curve at the load factor you will actually run. At this rating the difference between two efficiency percentages is tens of kilowatts of continuous heat.

Where it fits, and where it does not

Fits a large data hall, a colocation suite or a campus load between 500 kW and 1500 kW where the power train is being designed rather than patched. Does not fit a retrofit into a room whose switchboard and floor cannot be changed, and does not fit below 500 kW, where Galaxy VL is the correct class.
