Liebert APM and APM2: 30 to 600 kW modular UPS
Liebert APM and its APM2 successor are Vertiv’s modular three-phase UPS covering 30 to 600 kW. Capacity is built from hot-swappable power modules inside one frame, so a room buys the kilowatts it needs today and inserts modules as racks fill. The hot-swap property is what separates this class in practice: a failed module comes out while the load stays up.

Which one should you choose?
Hot-swap changes the maintenance conversation
In a monolithic unit, a power stage fault means a maintenance window and a bypass transfer. Here the faulty module is withdrawn and replaced while the remaining modules carry the load. On sites where scheduling downtime requires three signatures, that difference is worth more than the price gap.
Redundancy costs one module
N+1 in a modular frame is one additional power module, not a second complete UPS. On a 300 kW installation that is a materially different number, and it is the main reason modular wins on total cost when redundancy is in the specification.
The frame rating is the real ceiling
However many modules you buy, the cabinet has a rated maximum. Size the frame against the load you expect at the end of the refresh cycle, not the load on day one, because moving to a larger frame later is a new installation.
Front access decides the layout
Module replacement in this family happens from the front, so the aisle in front of the frame is a service requirement rather than a preference. Check the clearance against the door swing and the aisle width before the room layout is fixed; a frame you cannot open in place becomes a frame you must shut down to service.
Where it fits, and where it does not
Fits a room between 30 and 600 kW whose load is expected to grow in steps, or where N+1 redundancy is required at a sensible cost. Does not fit a fixed, fully known load where a monolithic unit is cheaper, and does not fit above 600 kW.
